Another dreaded SharePoint 2013 error solved!

So I’m setting up an on-prem SharePoint 2013 farm a client. Yeah, old school I know.

Anyway, I’m creating a new Search Service application and when I go to admin the thing I get this horrible message:

he error is:- The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component ‘XXXXXXXXXXXX′ in search application ‘Search Service Application 5′ is in a good state and try again.”

And, of course, nothing was populating on the page. Damn.

Blow the search service away and make a new one. Same error.

So I Googled the crap out of it and found about 20 different solutions. Guess which one worked?

iisreset

Fixed it. Well, it’s like us SharePointers always say “When in doubt, IISRESET!”
